This episode was the first time that the other universe Olivia was referred to as Fauxlivia. A phrase I coined after the first episode of this season and championed over on TVSquad.com until it became the acknowledged nomenclature after it won an internet vote. I am fully expecting a script writing credit from FOX. Proof below! I post on TVSquad as "apotheos" so look at my comments!
Dr. Fringe creates "Fauxlivia"!
The people resist the genius that is Fauxlivia
Fauxlivia wins the internet vote with 61%!
Anyways, Fauxlivia crediting aside this episode revealed a darker version of Peter. A darker...mass murdering version. All in attempts to get answers from the clones about his purpose with the giant doomsday machine. And now Walter had to keep Peter's dark secret from Olivia.
Is this darker turn of Peter's similar to what happened to Walter that eventually made him tell Bell to take parts of his brain out? And why does the machine only react to Peter? Yes he's from the other side but couldn't anyone from the other side work for it then? Is it his connection with the Observers? Is it because he's spent so much time in our universe?
One thing is for sure Olivia is going to be the one to bring Peter back from the brink. Which is all nice and good but what I really want to see is a 100% functional Walter finally fighting back against Walternate!

Firefly
Hello and welcome to the first installment of Dr. Fringe! The blog that's sure to become the go to spot for all things Fringe theory. Yes I realize I'm starting this blog 3.5 seasons into Fringe but I was busy running a LOST blog the first two seasons. Sadly LOST came to an end and I had a large blog shaped hole in my heart thus Dr. Fringe!
Anyways last night's episode was a nice one with a lot of screen time being devoted to the Observers - the quasi omnipotent race of bald eyebrowless weirdos who have the ability to cross both universes and times. They are busy at work trying to correct the problems they started by saving Peter and Walter back when Walter crossed over for the 1st time. What problems? Well all the crazy stuff going on the otherverse seems to be the main one but I think there's something that's going to happen that we aren't aware of yet.
In a bit of Butterfly Effect we find that because Peter didn't die in our universe he went on to catch a firefly as a kid. This firefly was supposed to be caught by an asthmatic Asian girl (later saved in the jewelery store robbery by the Observer) but since it wasn't she stayed out later than normal causing her father go come looking for her in his truck. As he was driving this truck through the rain he hit and killed a kid. That kid being Rosco's (Christopher Lloyd's character henceforth referred to as Doc Brown). The real kicker being his kid had just returned from THE FUTURE where he was made by the Observer to tell his dad to help Walter. "Give him the keys, save the girl".
So what we get is a very elaborate scheme involving a little time travel (sort of like some of my schemes...) in which the Observer successfully gets Peter to drink the memory milk Water was developing which in turn shows Walter the flaw in the current recipe and prevents him from dying. Yes - all that stuff the Observer did was to make sure Walter didn't die and, I'm extrapolating here, make sure he'll eventually make a working memory milk recipe.
But remember Walter had Bell take out those pieces of his brain for a reason. Why do the Observers want them back in his head? So far they've seemed fairly on the good guy side but if they want Walter to do something with whatever nefarious knowledge he was carrying around maybe they aren't so good after all. Perhaps their end game is to wipe out our universe and correct that mistake they made oh so long ago by saving Peter.
In addition to saving Walter's life the Observers were also testing to see if he had learned to let go of/sacrifice Peter. To make sure he could do it at a later date they say. Perhaps in the giant doomsday machine Walternate is building?
